Gatos Pastizzi was established in 1979 by Geytano Hili. An emigrant from war torn Malta, all Geytano (Gato for short) wanted, was to continue plying his family trade in his new home land.

It all started in 1953 at the old Maltese Club in Darlinghurst known as The St. Georges Club, where Gato made these delicate pastries in a humble disused room behind the club for the growing Maltese population that was now settling in Sydney.

In 1979, using borrowed money from a family member, Gato bought a struggling Pizza shop in Carramar, near Fairfield, with dreams of making these tasty morsels known as Pastizzi as popular in Sydney as they were in Malta. It was a struggle that most would have given up on but with his wife Teresa by his side, they persevered and started getting the recognition their efforts deserved.

By 1989 the business had become a handful to operate and so Gato’s two sons decided to become involved. The business grew without too much effort on the back of the quality and integrity of the product itself.

These days Gato’s Pastizzi occupies two modern factories close to the original Pizza shop where it all started. It is safe to say that it has become an icon of the western suburbs of Sydney where Quality is synonymous with the name.

Customers from all over Sydney travel to the popular Carramar outlet to enjoy a coffee and fresh baked Pastizzi and to choose from a range of nine varieties of frozen Pastizzi and Maltese Raviul as well as a large selection of finger food products on offer.

The business supply select retail outlets across Sydney and is prominent in the food service industry.

Our products are now being shipped to Queensland where the demand for Pastizzi is growing by the week. Products are also now being sold in Victoria which is known for being the hub of Maltese culture in Australia.

The company has had HACCP accreditation for the past seven years and maintains its reputation for making the crispiest and tastiest Pastizzi available.

Visitors to our store in Carramar can purchase anything that’s Maltese from biscuits, Kinnie Cola, cheese, sausages, pasta and even Maltese Rugby League merchandise and newspapers.

Our promise to our customers is that we will never lose the Passion for making authentic Maltese Pastizzi, yes the way Gato and his dad and his dad before him made them back in Malta.
